Here’s another video for y’all. I thought I would have a crack with the GoPro mounted on the helmet. It certainly gives it a different perspective than that when mounted to the frame. This is our local trail called “Terminated”. As you can tell from the camera movement it’s pretty rocky and rough with a number of fun off camber sections.
I’m already plotting my next angle, if I can pull it off it will be be wicked. I hope.

This is a start to finish cam vid of our local downhill track “No More Secrets”. This is the original line which has since been modified a little to take out the pedally section at the top. The Stumpy is currently getting packaged up to be sent for the first SJTC tour in the US so time to bring out the Enduro and have a crack. It had been raining heavily for 3 days so I held back a lot not knowing what was rutted out and I hadn’t ridden the trail for a while. The cool change and rain was a lovely change from the dry heat and dusty trails, you can feel the very start of Autumn coming. ...

…I went to work late and got another ride in before we get more snow!
Here in Bozeman many things are quite a bit more laid back than in the rest of the country, especially when it comes to skiing. A significant part of the local population chooses to live here for what we have in the winter: a great local ski area and (usually) deep powder. In fact, many business and professors at MSU have a variation on the 10 inch rule- if more than 10 inches of snow falls, they won’t be surprised to not see their staff at work or class in the morning.
I’m not a particularly good skier, and I haven’t even gone this year- mostly because ...

Google has rolled out their bicycle version of Google Maps. It’s pretty slick, with the ability to map routes on trails and paths. It covers dozens of cities across the US (with other countries coming down the pike). Here’s my coverage of it on Bike Hugger.

You wouldn’t know it from this photo taken two days ago, but spring is finally here. See that snow? Most of it’s gone now thanks to two days of temperatures above the 50’s a lot of that white menace is gone.
I’ve done a nice little road loop a few times the last few weeks- just a quick 15-mile lunch trip down to Panera to grab their tomato soup in a bread bowl and a salad, and then a jaunt back to the office. Usually I sprint there and casual ride back.
The crocus are starting to push through the soil and a hawk shadowed me for part of my ride today—all signs point to spring. Thank. Effing. God.
This upcoming weekend I’ll ...

One of the first great road trips of the year is in the books, and a pretty wild weekend of riding is now history. Our 8 man crew rendezvoused down south in Lawton, OK late on Friday night. Saturday morning we did not waste much time getting out to the Ft. Sill LETRA trail for a pre-ride. It was the first time in a long time that I rode outside without knee warmers and winter shoes on, it felt really good. The race started with the traditional monster back to back climbs that string everyone out pretty quickly. From there you dropped into series of odd singletrack sections that were more than a little disjointed and not maintained, we were all pretty disappointed ...

Well, the new road rig is finally complete and it’s absolutely sick:
I’ve taken it out about six times now and it rides as fantastic as it looks…very fast and responsive, but the carbon really damps the vibration nicely. Needless to say, I’m stoked.
What’s FAR more exciting to me than the new bike (which is really up there) is the major improvement in my knee. I’ve been dealing with a tenacious case of pes anserine bursitis (Google it) for almost two years now. As you read in my last post, I recently had a PRP injection, which seems to have provided some improvement. I’ve also had some cold laser therapy provided by Dr. Kevin Reichlin, one of the team docs for ...

Grimo and I headed out yesterday for some fun with our cams. I managed to get what I call “the JohnF angle” so you can see the fork suspension doing their job and the trail at the same time. It’s a little hard to ride properly with a camera hanging off the bike where your leg normally goes. I thought I would have a crack at uploading a full HD 1080P video. It was only a 1.1Gb upload for a 4min video

Here’s my first crack at the GoPro helmet cam. I had it mounted on my handle bars rather than my helmet as there is too much movement on top. I think I put a fingerprint smudgy on the lens as it’s a bit washed out in the top half of frame. I don’t have the JohnF awesome frame angle happening yet, I’m still working on that one!
This shows a small part of the trails I usually ride on weekdays after work around Nail Can Hill in Albury, NSW, Australia. These trails are legal and are actively maintained by the Albury-Wodonga Mountain Bikers Club.
For the geeks: the footage was taken in full HD 1080P on the GoPro Hero HD and edited ...

Squamish Ride. Always a treat. I now have a new Go pro HD helmet cam, Thanks to Go pro and the guys at Specialized. This footage is from the old model so look out for some new HD action real soon. Enjoy! Matt
