My mountain biking addiction started back in the days when I started BMXing at 7 years of age. The usual kids stuff building bmx tracks, dirt jumps ripping on dirt with your buddies and trying to imitate the riders from movies like” BMX Bandits “ and “ The Cult Classic Radical “. The conversion onto big wheels and fat tires started when my friend at work “ McDonnalds ” showed me mountain biking video while we were on our lunch break. The very next day found my self pressed up against the glass window of my local bike shop after School and there it was, my first mountain bike a ” GT Telera “ . How time flies, seems like just yesterday we were driving home exhausted from the 2008 Highland Fling. It was the first year we raced survived the event.
The Highland Fling is nestled in the Southern Highlands, NSW, Australia, which is a 1.5 hour drive south of Sydney. Last year the “Half Fling” was 55km which has been extended to 59km this year. They also offer the “Full Fling” which is 110km and the 100 Miler, which is a 100 miles duh! It’s an extremely well run event with a big emphasis on the environment.
So we are 10 days out from the 2009 race and typically I am not as prepared as I should be but it could be a whole lot ...

Well more like a continuation of what I have been doing for years but I hope to break in the new STUMPY on our annual Covelo trip this weekend! Two 75 mile days over the Coast Range with a stay in Covelo in between. Big hills, ripping descents and usually a bear sighting all with great friends! Stay tuned for report!
